In Gestural Floral Painting, Ottawa-based artist and educator Janet Slavin leads a dynamic oil painting workshop that brings floral still life to life, fast, bold, and beautifully gestural. This course is designed for advanced beginners to intermediate painters looking to loosen up their approach.Over the weekend participants will learn perceptual painting methods that strengthen how they see, mix, and apply colour. Participants will leave with enhanced technical skills and a more expressive visual language.

What You'll Learn:

·       How to begin a painting with clarity and purpose

·       Simplification through tonal structure and value.

·       A freeing approach to mark-making

·       How to move from short, fast studies to a refined and expressive final piece

 Workshop Highlights:

Day 1: Welcome evening with artist talk, introductions, colour mixing demo, and warm-up exercises to get the paint flowing.

Day 2: Painting exercises that teach tonal recognition, loosen up your process, and build instinctual decision-making, to prepare you for a full day of alla prima painting the next day

Day 3: Apply everything you’ve learned in a sustained floral painting, with one-on-one mentoring and a group reflection session.
